Alabama-born soul singer Eddie Floyd found ideal songwriting partners in MGs members Booker T. Jones and Steve Cropper and scored his biggest hits working with them. Recorded in 1969 and ’70, the first contains the hits "Why Is the Wine Sweeter (On the Other Side)" and "California Girl," both co-written by Floyd and Jones. The second, produced in 1971 by Cropper and Floyd, is a bold experiment in soul-rock fusion quite unlike anything else in the vocalist’s discography.
