180g vinyl LP on Proper. Faithfully replicates the original 1977 Virgin Records release.Originally released in 1976 on the Isadora label and re-issued by Virgin in 1977, New Age Of Earth became a defining album in the rise of ambient and electronic music. Guitarist and synthesist Manuel Göttsching formed Ashra after the dissolution of Ash Ra Tempel, transitioning from space rock to a more electronic-focused sound. Recorded in Berlin, the album's four tracks represent the core of Kosmische music: hypnotic, repetitive, and both celestial and grounded. The album opens with "Sunrain," a track that foreshadows techno, while "Ocean Of Tenderness" evokes the early, cosmic vibe of Fleetwood Mac. "Deep Distance" merges surf influences with ambient electronica. The 21-minute "Nightdust" takes up the album's second side, unfolding slowly to a powerful guitar solo that concludes the record in a celestial flourish.
