Originally released in 1982 in the Republic of Congo, Les Nkenda is a spiritual oddity that's long evaded collectors - until now. Spearheaded by Adam Julien Koubemba and recorded in Pointe-Noire for the Cercle Biblique Evangelique, this rare eight-track album fuses gospel, psychedelic groove, funk and Afro-Latin rhythm into a singular, unfiltered expression. Tracks like 'Mpungi Mu Mazulu' and 'Zimvita Zingi' move between incantatory chants, tightly syncopated percussion and raw, multilingual harmonies, capturing the urgency of grassroots spiritual music in 80s Congo. The album has been lovingly remastered from the original tapes and returns to vinyl via its first official reissue, courtesy of the Adamsol label. While undeniably devotional, it never shies away from experimentation - merging Congolese folk with hypnotic basslines and shuffling polyrhythms that feel as vital now as they must've then. For deep diggers, this isn't just a reissue - it's an unburial.
