Way back in the early 1980s, many of the musicians and vocalists behind the proto-disco "Philly Soul" sound (famously released by the iconic Philadelphia International label) reunited in the studio to re-record some of their classics. The projected album never materialised, but last year the tapes ended up in the hands of legendary NYC producer Eric Kupper (famed for his work with the late Frankie Knuckles). He's remixed them all for release on a triple-vinyl album, but first we get this - his classy spruce-up of 'The Love I Lost', originally a hit for Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. Kupper's take subtly updates the track for 21st century house and disco dancefloors whilst retaining the gorgeous instrumentation, orchestration and vocals from the 1982 recording. It comes backed with a tidy instrumental take too.
