First released in 1988 on the fittingly occultic-in-name Kaos Dance Records, 'Something Scary' is the debut EP (originally 12") by Belgian new beat/acid formation Zsa Zsa Laboum. Evincing a genre specificity that not even the average obsessive can muster, the eponymous track heard here has gone down in history as one of the quintessences of the hard beat microsound. 'Something Scary' nails it all; a deep fried, horrific acid line serves as the main engine for a mortal confrontation in sound, peppered throughout by FM cascades, sparse resampled djembe, and ghostly murmurations verging on EVP pickups. The EP is here lent a full on rejig, with a brand new instrumental reconstruction released here alongside two fresh smokeout versions from Anatolian Weapons.
  • A1 Something Scary
  • A2 Something Scary (Instrumental)
  • B1 Something Scary (Anatolian Weapons Remix I)
  • B2 Something Scary (Anatolian Weapons Remix II)
