New York's new Thema label kicking off properly for the minimalists with this on-point four-track EP from Alka Rex. Balancing beats with ambience, this EP works well for both the dancefloor and beyond, anchored by the dark clicky beats, growling bassline, and elephant (yes) samples of the haunting "Palundra". More cinematic jerky rhythms abound on "Tiksi" while the title track "Hester Fenz" adds some deep pads and space-age bleeps into the mix. Top shelf stuff for the lo-fi and microhouse nuts. RECOMMENDED!
