Building on the critical acclaim of his previous work, McKeown expands his "pagantronica" soundscape using a disciplined, retro-leaning setup of modular synthesizers, drum machines, and electric guitars.
The album successfully bridges two distinct eras and geographies of electronic music: It heavily channels the propulsive, motorik rhythms and expansive, buzzing textures of 1970s and 80s Krautrock pioneers like Cluster, Harmonia, Neu!, and Can.
These European foundations are infused with decidedly British references from the soaring, cinematic beauty of Brian Eno's ambient works and the sustained loops of Robert Fripp’s Frippertronics, to the poetic, dream-pop guitar languor of The Durutti Column.
