The choir of St.Gayane was founded in 1980, largely through the efforts of the resident priest of the cathedral, Father Gurgen Asharian. In 1986, the choir first presented a televised broadcast of Divine Liturgy. This was followed by similar appearances at Philharmonia Hall in Yerevan, Armenia and at the Opera House in Tbilisi, Georgia.
