Mariem Hassan is a Sahrawi singer and lyricist from Western Sahara. She sings in Hassaniya, an Arabic dialect spoken in Western Sahara and Mauritania. Together with Vadiya Mint el Hanevi she now recorded an album in the context of the heritage of the Saharawi culture. The album also includes new mixes of some previously released tracks. The title song 'Baila Sahara Baila', with lyrics of the poet lamin Allal, presents the Saharawi dances as the centre of his life. His poems embrace these dances, waiting to resound in the tents of the desert, the liberated and the occupied territories and in the diaspora.
