(26/39) Closely affiliated with the similarly shadowy, Newcastle-Upon-Tuyne based Hot Biscuit Recordings imprint, Typewriter Record Pool seems to exist solely as a platform for legendary Chicagoan scalpel fiend Rahaan's excellent edits and remixes. That's not a complaint, though, because Rahaan's stash of revisions boasts far more gold than most of his contemporaries. His fifth Typewriter Record Pool outing delivers three more slabs of must-check heat. Side A sports two treats: his bongo-rich, walking bass-propelled remix of 'Rebound', which sits somewhere between stripped-back NYC disco and Loleatta Hiolloway-sampling disco-house, and a loose-limbed, lightly dancefloor focused spiritual jazz workout titled 'Tongues Unknown (Rahaan Remix)'. Best of all, though, is B-side 'Mothafunka Connection (Rahaan Remix)', a languid and shuffling slab of rolling, low-tempo early Detroit P-funk lightly reworked for the dancefloor.
