Speedy J and Rødhåd introduce The Department of Almost with their first full-length LP Second Office. Developed over extended Berlin studio sessions, the record brings together two artists whose respective platforms, STOOR and WSNWG, have long embraced artistic exchange and open creative practice.
Moving between crafty dancefloor material and more reflective and exploratory compositions, the album develops a shared sonic language that extends beyond their two unmistakable, long-established artistic voices.
Across eleven compositions, deliberate dancefloor material is elegantly intertwined with calm and spacious soundscapes. A propulsive current gives way to passages of suspension and introspection. While rhythm and atmosphere gradually fold into one another, the record favours gradual transformation over dramatic gesture.
The album's quieter moments open up a more contemplative space, extending its emotional register without departing from its forward motion. Beneath, a subtle and understated sense of distance evokes spacious environments and glacial landscapes – topographies in cold light.
While the album documents ten concentrated days in the WSNWG-studio, it also reflects a collaborative exchange that has been shaped over years of shared performances. Rather than a one-off meeting, Second Office solidifies an ongoing dialogue between two artists whose work continues to evolve, whether in the studio or through live performance.
