The sins of Stravinsky’s youth gathered together on one disc. A certain amount of speculation will probably always surround the exact motivation for the composer’s 1945 pruning away of some of the ‘extravagances’ of his gorgeously plumed 1910 complete Firebird score; but there would seem to have been enough paternal affection for his 1907 student Symphony in E flat for the 80-something composer to unearth it and record it himself (in 1966).
