'Voices Of The Rainforest' occupies rare territory even in this era when we can generally access anything with ease. Three decades on from it landing originally, its unique in-between quality is exactly what's kept it beloved among deep-diggers. Caspar Pound and Laurence Elliott-Potter build the track across its ten-plus minutes with tribal percussion and spacious atmospheric textures giving way to driving trance elements without ever losing that underlying melancholy. It's neither fully ambient nor purely functional rave music, instead existing somewhere genuinely psychedelic in between and connecting early-90s UK trance to the more contemplative ambient techno scene developing alongside it. The included Blackout Mix, recorded live in Paris, pushes that hypnotic quality even further.
