Over its 18 tracks the development of Colombian salsa is plotted: from its roots in the 1960s when the country was in a relative state of calm, through to the 1970s when the country became engulfed in armed struggle funded by the rising tide of cocaine smuggling. The music reflected the everyday challenges of life but also acted as a form of escape. he whole series is compiled and annotated by Latin music expert and collector Mike Delanian. The booklet is lavishly illustrated with many rare album covers from which the music has been taken.
