Through regular trips to the Caribbean, Lava on Wax box Matteo Fava continues to find killer obscurities to reissue. He sniffed out his latest - and the members of the short-lived band behind it, Rebellions - during a sojourn to Trinidad and Tobago. First released on a tiny local label ack in 1979, 'Funky Rainbow' (side A), is a languid, lightly cosmic and deliciously infectious slab of low-down Caribbean funk. Much of the track's appeal derives not from the (admittedly killer) groove underpinning it, but the fact that it sounds like there was a party going on in the studio. Over on the flip, we get the arguably superior 'Disco Soca Song', a spacey synth and heady horns-sporting slab of, well, disco-soca fusion.
