Mr Soul is Al Scott, and he is credited with just one tune back in 1966. 'You're Too Good' is that tune, and it gets another reissue here on the Genuine label, which marks its rather impressive 150th outing. It's a real Northern Soul classic with swigging drums, big horns bursting out of the mix and an impassioned soul vocal backed by quick, funky guitar work. 'What Happened To Yesterday' is a slower sound in the flip but still bears all the hallmarks of Northern Soul with its vulnerable vocals and lovesick emotions. This is one of the most famous cover-ups on the Northern scene. It was originally played by DJ Richard Searling as Maurice McAllister "Your Love Is Slipping Away", before collector Rod Shard turned a copy up and its true identity became known.
