Pax Nicholas is best known as the Ghanaian conga player who joined Fela Kuti's Africa 70 in 1971, only to leave with Tony Allen after the 1978 Berlin Jazz Festival and build an entirely separate career in Germany, leading his own 12-piece outfit Ridimtaksi. Daptone's 2009 reissue of his 1973 solo debut did the rehabilitation work, but now it's time for actual new music from the man himself. This new Comet single, 'Mind Your Business', is a genuine new one through Nicholas' apparent new label home: its slow-rising call ends in an abrupt, flourishing command, while leggy percussion and brass bombast follow, slowly rising through the heat.
